Okay. I have thoughts about this. Oddly enough, it isn’t so much about Watson being female as it is about everything else in that article. And the fact that not everybody cares about gender as little as I do, and that they have likely made Watson female for a reason I am not going to like.

The obvious problem numero uno I have with this is what I’m sure several of my followers are clever enough to deduce. I don’t think they’re making Watson a woman just to be modern and shit. I have a bad feeling that they might be planning for her to become Holmes’ love interest. And in that case, obviously Watson needs to be female.

My problem numero due is that shitty piece of plot we saw. Since we made Watson female, we obviously can’t make her a soldier (it’s not my job to tell why, I didn’t make this decision, and I never would have). Let’s make her a woman who tried to be independent and professional but failed! And now we can make her fall head over heels in love with Holmes. Who’s fresh off a rehab clinic.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND HOW MANY LEVELS OF WRONG THAT IS

It’s like, the main characters in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories are Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, and London.

I have a feeling I’m not going to see enough BAMF!Watson in this series. I am very scared they are going to ruin the friendship that Holmes and Watson have. I certainly don’t want this to be made into a love story. But hey, that’s life. Everything has to be romance these days. Even Sherlock Holmes, which clearly never was. (Or maybe it was, but never in a blatant, obvious, model-bodies-and-on-screen-kisses sort of way.)

Oh, now I’m just thinking about the possibility of a forced romance sort of thing, and it’s just making me nauseous.

Seriously. This whole ordeal with “Elementary”. It must be illegal somehow. Please tell me it’s illegal. The good part is that nobody is going to make me watch this, because they know that I adore Sherlock Holmes, and this just… Isn’t. 

All my feelings are making it hard to write something intelligent and whatever.

Yeah, I agree with the above. It’s not so much the idea of a love story between Holmes and Watson, (I think it could possibly be an interesting thing play around with, though I still believe that Holmes and Watson were originally about a strong bond between two people and I think that unless it was done very carefully it would trivialise their relationship and take away the genuine deep affection and tie between the two). However what looks like the very likely possibility of the creators genderbending just so that Watson can get with Holmes because obviously she has to be female so that they can be romantically involved, oh and let’s take away half of Watson’s rather important backstory and SET IT IN NEW YORK

BUT IT’S OKAY GUYS BECAUSE WE’RE GETTING HOLMES TO BE PLAYED BY A BRIT

and why do I have an ominous feeling that Holmes is going to angst over his drug problem to the point where it gets unbelievably annoying

at the moment it just seems like they’re taking away half of what makes Sherlock Holmes Sherlock Holmes, and not doing it for the right reasons.

I mean, of course there’s no right and wrong in this field. There is, however, a very distinct difference between a good idea and a stupid one. I feel like they’re just doing things for the sake of it, which to me is one of the worst crimes you can commit when creating something.
